Olivine – faceted, 6 mm

Olivine is a magnesium-iron silicate with Mohs hardness 6.5 to 7; the clear green variety is sold as peridot, coloured by iron in the crystal lattice. The strands we stock are listed by the supplier as "optimised" – a trade term meaning that small cracks, pits or chips on individual beads have been repaired, so the stone is not untreated. The supplier does not name the filling material; repaired areas may become visible under UV light and tolerate heat and ultrasonic cleaning less well than intact stone.

Faceted stones carry cut faces that break the light, so the stone appears lighter or darker depending on the angle. Drilled.

Care: clean with lukewarm water and a soft cloth, then wipe dry. An ultrasonic bath is not necessary for natural stone.
