Description

Diopside – cubes, 4 mm

Diopside is a clinopyroxene with Mohs hardness 5.5 to 6.5. The green variety, often traded as chrome diopside, takes its colour from chromium in the crystal lattice; deposits are worked in Siberia, Madagascar, Pakistan and Myanmar. Softer than quartz, it scratches more easily and is best stored apart from faceted quartz.

Cube beads look crisp and modern; the edges are softened so they do not fray the thread. Drilled.

Care: clean with lukewarm water and a soft cloth, then wipe dry. An ultrasonic bath is not necessary for natural stone.
